Sonic Hacking Corner

October 21, 2007 - The End! The End! The End! The End?

Five years and three months ago, a random link brought me to Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta, which drew me into the Sonic community. I enjoyed hacking Sonic Team's games, made some cool friends, and generally had a ball. Inspired by several old Sonic hacking sites, I decided to build a Sonic hacking site of my own. But thanks to all of the problems and drama in the various Sonic communities, my interest in hacking the games waned. In a last-ditch attempt to keep the fire going, I wrote up the Ristar savestate doc with the promise that it wouldn't be the last bit of Ristar hacking material the community would see from me.

As it turns out, it was.

And it's going to continue to be that way until I work up the motivation to start hacking the old Sonic games again. Despite the site's face-lift, I am officially putting this section of the Portal on ice, and it will remain in that state until the fire for hacking Sonic causes the metaphorical ice to melt. Earlier tonight, I spent some time lurking around the board indexes of a couple of my old haunts. I realized how much I missed the days of spending hours browsing around those message boards and discussing the latest discovery or bit of hacking information.

Sonic community, I'll see you again someday.

 February 17, 2005 - Hey Now, You're a Rock Star

An update? Improbable. A new game to add to the nav? Impossible. New hacking notes? Unlikely. In a text file? Yeah. Ristar gets a spot on the navigation, and a small RAM hacking guide (complete with messed-up formatting, which I need to work on fixing) to go with it. Hudibugah!

 January 6, 2005 - Auld Lang Cosine

New year, new page, same layout. Hey, two out of three ain't bad. My first ROM hack (which I made about 4 or 5 months ago) is on there, dubbed "Sonic the Hedgehog 2 'S'." Nothing overly impressive, but hopefully you get at least 2 minutes' enjoyment out of it.

 August 15, 2004 - Dude, Where's My Palette?

New page, today. It's this one. Which is linked from this new section. And I need to work on some more stuff.

 June 6, 2004 - Formatically Correct

I've updated the Sonic Battle ROM hacking guide, not with new info, but a HTML fix. After fighting with the tables for a while, I've settled on a look for the text editing section that I'm fairly happy with. I saved myself a bit of time by writing a program to help me format that section (I can feed it the text in the old format, and it'll spit out the text in the proper, HTML format). Now let's see if I can start on something 32X-related again, or on another project that I have in mind...
